Hunting The Moon Tribe Book Release party at the Hollywood theater!

Posted in Uncategorized on May 5, 2011 by carltonmellick

If you’re in the Portland area, join David Agranoff (as well as myself, Eraserhead Press, and others in the PDX bizarro fiction scene) at the Hollywood Theater tonight at 7pm for the release party of his new novel “Hunting the Moon Tribe.” There will be vegan cake, classic Kungfu and horror movie trailers on the big screen, books on sale, signing, and total geek madness.

Here’s a video ad for tonight’s event:

Here’s some praise for “Hunting the Moon Tribe” by David Agranoff:

“David Agranoff’s HUNTING THE MOON TRIBE mashes up Chinese mythology, some seriously unnerving horror, Maoist politics, a sweet coming-of-age story, dark magic, and high-kicking martial arts into a compelling and unusual page-turner. I’ve never read (or seen) anything like it, and HUNTING THE MOON TRIBE should mark Mr. Agranoff as one of the most original and exciting new voices to emerge in genre fiction in a dragon’s age.” – Lisa Morton Three time Bram Stoker award winning author of The Castle of Los Angeles and The Cinema of Tsui Hark.

“Remember that old Shaw Brothers / Hammer Studios flick The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires? HUNTING THE MOON TRIBE is what that movie should have been. It is an extremely entertaining epic of kick-ass martial arts and bloody horror. Agranoff not only dazzles us with breathtaking action scenes and vampire violence but also tugs at our heartstrings with realistic family drama and romance. It’s a scary martial arts fantasy that will please just about everyone. David Agranoff is a gifted storyteller.” – Jordan Krall Author of Fistful of Feet and Squid pulp Blues

“As terrifying as Richard Laymon, and just as good, David Agranoff reshapes the vampire mythos in ways never experienced. The horror is visceral, the action brutal, and at its core, there’s a poignancy typically left out of today’s horror. A circus between worlds, vampires, and martial arts aplenty – “Hunting the Moon Tribe” reads like “Brotherhood of the Wolf” encompassed in Chinese folklore and culture. One of the strongest new voices in horror fiction that I’ve read.” – Eric Mays author of Naked Metamorphosis and host of the Authors Speak Podcast

OUT NOW: “War Slut”

war slut

My novella War Slut has been re-released and is now available. This edition includes a new introduction and new cover art.

WAR SLUT

In a future where everyone in the world has been drafted into the military, there is only one enemy left to fight . . . ourselves.

Five exhausted soldiers are sitting in the middle of a frozen Arctic wasteland, waiting for something to happen. They don’t know why they are there or what they are supposed to be doing. Their superior officers have stopped giving them orders, their food supply is running low, and they are unsure whether or not their enemy actually exists at all. Once they lose their war slut (a transmorphing sex cyborg), the soldiers leave the safety of their camp in order to get it back. Only what they find out in the dark icy landscape is something far beyond what they ever could have imagined.

Part 1984, part Waiting for Godot, and part action horror video game adaptation of John Carpenter’s The Thing, WAR SLUT is a fast-paced dystopian tale of the dark and the absurd.

These days, if you want to run a successful company . . .
you’re going to need a lot of ninjas.

Neo Tokyo, California is a city built so high that none of its residents have ever seen the ground. It is a place where citizens cosmetically alter their bodies to look like Japanese anime characters. It is a place where ninja battles determine the fate of corporate business ventures. It is the home of Basu, a 700 pound killing machine who uses his grotesque excess weight as a deadly weapon. In this city, there is no ninja more deadly than Basu. He’s well-trained, well-armed, and well-fed. And if you work for one of his competitors, he’s coming to kill you.

“Abortion Arcade” by Cameron Pierce

Posted in Uncategorized on April 24, 2011 by carltonmellick

Abortion Arcade is a collection of three novellas by one of the shining young stars of bizarro fiction. Cameron Pierce’s work is an intoxicating blend of body horror and midnight movie madness, reminiscent of early David Lynch and the splatterpunks at their most sublime. His fiction will punch you in the brain and leave you gasping for more.

Featuring:

NO CHILDREN

The apocalypse is over. Now zombies farm humans for their brains. As the imprisoned human cattle drift further from their humanity, the zombies flourish in a primitive renaissance, flying around in helicopters and living in smart houses made of human brains.

THE ROADKILL QUARTERBACK OF HEAVY METAL HIGH

After Heavy Metal High’s star quarterback dies in a car accident, Danny the Dio-worshipping werewolf must transform from loser to gridiron star in this surreal pulp tragedy about teenage anxiety, high school violence, and heavy fucking metal.

THE DESTROYED ROOM

In a near-future city where automobiles have been outlawed and exotic animals roam the streets, a man wakes up one morning to discover that everyone in the world is a marionette. Now his wife is dead and he must find the answer, or else lose everything to the Great Shark Head in the Sky.

DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN by Brian Keene

One morning the residents of Walden, Virginia, woke up to find the rest of the world gone. Just . . . gone.

Surrounding their town was a wall of inky darkness, plummeting Walden into permanent night. Nothing can get in – not light, not people, not even electricity, radio, TV, internet, food, or water. And nothing can get out. No one who dared to penetrate the mysterious barrier has ever been seen again. Only their screams were heard.

But for some, the darkness is not the worst of their fears. Driven mad by thirst, hunger, and perpetual night, the residents of Walden are ready to explode. The last few sane prisoners of this small town must prepare a final stand against their neighbors, themselves, and something even worse . . . something out there . . . in the darkness . . .

TEQUILA’S SUNRISE by Brian Keene

Discover the secret origins of the “drink of the gods” in this dark fantasy fable by best-selling author Brian Keene.

Chalco, a young Aztec boy, feels helpless as conquering Spanish forces near his village. But when a messenger of the gods hands him a key to unlock the doors of human perception and visit unseen worlds, Chalco journeys into the mystical Labyrinth, searching for a way to defeat the invaders. He will face gods, devils, and things that are neither. But he will also learn that some doorways should never be opened and not all entrances have exits…

Tequila’s Sunrise. Take the shot and open the door… if you dare.

Deadite Press is proud to present this author’s preferred edition of Brian Keene’s long out-of-print novella, which contains material not included in previously published editions. A GATHERING OF CROWS by Brian Keene

Brinkley Springs is a quiet little town. Some say the town is dying. They don’t know how right they are.

Five mysterious figures are about to pay a visit to Brinkley Springs. They have existed for centuries, emerging from the shadows only to destroy. To kill. To feed. They bring terror and carnage, and leave blood and death in their wake. The only person that can prevent their rampage is ex-Amish magus (and fan favorite character) Levi Stoltzfus.

As the night wears on, Brinkley Springs will be quiet no longer. Screams will break the silence. But when the sun rises again, will there be anyone left alive to hear?

Coming Soon: Fantastic Orgy

Posted in Bizarro Books, Bizarro Fiction on April 18, 2011 by carltonmellick

My first short story collection to be published since “Sunset with a Beard” was released 10 years ago. It will include six previously published stories, including “Porno in August” previously reprinted in The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror. There will also be three new stories, including the title novella which is about a world of sexually transmitted diseases that are not harmful, but strange and magical … and trendy. If you look closely at the cover image you will see one of my favorite sexually transmitted diseases in the book: Hello Kitty Eyes.

This book should be available some time next month.
